Direct peritoneal resuscitation (DPR) is a medical technique used in the treatment of hemorrhagic shock, a life-threatening condition characterized by severe blood loss. It involves the direct injection of a resuscitative fluid into the peritoneal cavity (the space within the abdominal cavity that contains the abdominal organs) in order to help restore blood volume and stabilize the patient's condition.

The concept of DPR is based on the idea that the peritoneal cavity can function as a reservoir for fluids, allowing for rapid absorption into the circulatory system. The technique is considered an alternative to traditional intravenous (IV) fluid resuscitation, which can be limited by the speed of fluid delivery and the risk of fluid overload.

DPR has been used in animal studies and small clinical trials, and has shown promising results in improving survival rates and reducing the need for blood transfusions in patients with hemorrhagic shock.
